Michael Ott
Director, Writer
Michael Ott grew up on the outskirts of Los Angeles in the
conservative, desert town of Valencia, California. With a 16mm camera
and close-knit group of friends, Mike felt compelled to start
documenting his environment. With a fetish for idiosyncrasies,
reactionary behaviors and cult eighties films, he soon turned his small
town into an on screen canvas of stories.
Mike began making narrative films on Super 8 after graduating from
high school. He has since gone on to study at the School of FILM/VIDO
at the California Institute of the Arts, where he received his MFA
degree in May of 2005. While at Cal Arts Mike made a number of short
films, as well as, directed a handful of music videos for the Seattle
based bands Pretty Girls Make Graves (Matador Records) and, more
recently, The Blood Brothers (V2 Records); all of which have gained
regular airplay on MTV2 and the FUSE. Presently, Mike owns and runs his
own record label, Sound Virus Records, where he releases CDs and vinyl
for up and coming bands. This summer he plans on expanding his label
by releasing a series of DVDs by local filmmakers.
